So you found me….
And you want to read about me as well?
Hmmm, ok hang on. Let's make up some fancy story about why I am the best blogger in the whole damn world…
Nope, sorry, I will be honest with you.
Music is personal.
Writing about music is personal.
Music to me has always been and always will be about personal emotions. Ever since I was a very young boy, I recall getting goose-bumps listening to Eurythmics "Sweet Dreams" and Robin Gibb "Juliet". Come to think of it, both songs were hits in 1983 (I was 6 years old) and it was back then when I started to get hooked on music. Not just dance, pop, rock, classic, jazz, but music in general. I simply love music.
It wasn't until the first week of March 1984 when one of my older sisters took me by the hand and showed me around in a record store. It was run by Mister Adamse, a grumpy old man, and I wasn't exactly thrilled. But he gave me my first chart magazine. The next days I was fascinated by the magazine. I was already taping the Top 40 and Top 50, using my old cassettes with dull children stories and Sesame Street, but now I got something in hand.
My sisters still regret that day, because for the next months they were forced to bring this annoying 6 year old to the record store every Wednesday to get a fresh copy of the Dutch Top 40 mag. After my birthday, I saved enough money to buy my first 7 inch; "Sheila E – The Glamorous Life". Damn, how I loved that song. Over and over and over…
As I am writing this down, I am looking around in my attic and see piles of cd's and LP's and 4 2TB hard discs in front of me. Ooh how times have changed.
The rest of my "Music" story will be told in various personal blogs over the course of the next months and years.
Since the mid 1990s I have been very fortunate to be working in the so-called "Music Business". I have seen many different parts of the scene. Some of my jobs; account-manager at Mox Music, dj (in various countries), broadcaster at Raar Fm (radio-station in Aruba), chart-compiler for Raar FM, shop-manager at Van Leest, label-manager at Astral Music, promotion/marketing-manager at Stealth Records and so on.
Since June 2012, I can even add composer, singer, musician and blogger to the list. Damn…
Now, before we will put a mark on music, these 5 albums are must haves:
- Tapestry by Carole King
- Debut by Björk
- Dusty Springfield in Memphis
- The Smiths - Louder Than Bombs
- Tricky – Maxinquaye
If I may quote one of my best friends: "There's so much music inside my head that there is no place for other things..."
